Balancing your Army
From FaitH
oulic4tchila Army balances is to do with the number of Long Range (LR) and Close Range (CR) units that you own. Having a correctly balanced army is vital, because if your army is not balanced you will get a serious attack penalty (or, if you prefer, you will get a large attack bonus for having a correctly balanced army). If your army happens to fall out of balance, you will be in serious trouble and will likely not win any wars until the problem is fixed.
If in doubt, the simplest and easiest way to balance your army is to have an equal number of units with long range and close range. If you do this, you will always be balanced. However, this is not always the ideal situation, because with most churches one of the types of units will be worse than the other. The perfect example of this case is with Karla, where Knights of Nothingness (CR) are a terrible unit, and Virgin Lovers (LR) are a good unit.
Here is how to balance your army:
- Add up the total number of units you have with CR
- To check if a unit has CR, click on their portrait in the "Armies->Recruit" tab, or use the manual
- Remember that if a unit has both CR and LR, you must include them in your total.
- Multiply this number by 0.9 (or 1.1)
- You are allowed 10% leeway in total number of CR/LR units and still remaining balanced
- If your Long Range unit is better, multiply by 1.1. If your CR unit is better, multiply by 0.9
- Subtract your total number of units with both CR and LR from this number.
- The remaining number is the minimum (or maximum) number of purely LR units you are allowed.
Note:
- You must start with CR. If you start with LR, it will not work properly.
- Military Acadamies (Warfare branch of the Tree of Knowledge) allow you greater leeway when balancing.
- These are especially useful for Rift churches, where one of the units is always significantly better.
- If you have 3 Military Acadamies, use 1.16 and 0.84 instead of 1.1 and 0.9
- Balancing is more important for some churches than others.
- If you are Genesis there is no point in doing anything but equal numbers
- If you are Trinity, balancing can be helpful but is not absolutely vital
- If you are Rift, balancing your army properly, and maximising your better unit, is essential to good army setup.
